The Canadian FSA / Forward Sortation Area Boundaries File contains the geographic polygon boundary for Canada's Forward Sortation Areas (FSAs). FSA boundary files allow you to analyze your data at the FSA level of geography. All postal codes in Canada coorespond or lie within a larger FSA Boundary. The first three characters of the postal code represent the Forward Sortation Area they belong to. FSAs are delineated / determined based on volume of mail.The first letter of the FSA indicates a province, territory or other major Postal Sector of mailing. The second letter of the Postal Code indicates whether the address falls in a rural or urban area. In Canada there are approximately 1,475 FSAs. The FSA file is updated on an annual basis.
